The Torres Vedras Translocal Recommitment Workshops (2024)
Two years after the first signing, we gathered to revisit the Venice Agreement. Considering the Agreement as a living document of reflection and renewal, we gathered to evaluate and support its evolution. In June 2024, a constellation of prior VA signatories and other peatland custodians convened in Torres Vedras, Portugal, for a three-day gathering hosted by the Municipality of Torres Vedras, W-Replay, and the Center for Geographical Studies.

Workshop Kit: Underground Workshops
There, we met the local peatlands and their custodians, and revisited the texts with bold questions such as: What does the Agreement need to become to serve in the contemporary, shifted eco-socio-political context? What forms of accountability, measurement, and care will support its impact? In parallel, 17 underground workshops happened across the globe. Peatland communities participated in this same reflective process, feeding back insights, edits and questions to the collective re-writing.
Together, these collective encounters shaped the 2024 iteration of the Agreement.
